Step by step, what happens

1. The tool reads the full text you provide and scans it for sentence boundaries, words, and characters.
2. It counts sentences based on the punctuation and structure in your text, then counts the words it finds.
3. It also counts all characters in the text, including spaces and punctuation if the tool is showing total characters.
4. Finally, it calculates the average words per sentence from the sentence and word counts and shows the result immediately.

Tips and common mistakes

• If your text uses abbreviations, check the sentence count carefully because periods inside abbreviations can affect results.
• If you want a fair readability check, paste the exact text you plan to publish, including headings or bullet points if they matter.
• Remember that words separated by extra spaces can still count normally, but they may make character totals look higher than expected.
• Use the character count to compare versions of a message, but use the sentence count to spot very long or very dense writing.
