Steps to Calories Calculator
Estimate calories burned from steps walked.
About the Steps to Calories Calculator
Estimates the calories burned from walking a number of steps, using your body weight and an average stride to estimate distance and energy.
How to use
Enter your steps and body weight, then click Calculate.
Worked example
10,000 steps at 70 kg → roughly 350 to 450 kcal.
How to use this calculator
- Enter the number of steps you walked.
- Enter your body weight in kilograms.
- Click calculate to estimate calories burned.
- Review the result and, if needed, adjust the inputs for a new estimate.
The formula explained
$$ \text{calories} = \frac{\text{steps} \times \text{weight} \times 0.04}{1000} $$
- \(\text{calories}\) = estimated calories burned
- \(\text{steps}\) = number of steps walked
- \(\text{weight}\) = body weight in kilograms
- \(0.04\) = an estimate factor used by the calculator
Step by step method
- Take the number of steps from your tracker or walking app.
- Use your current body weight in kilograms as the weight input.
- Multiply steps by weight and by 0.04, then divide by 1000.
- Read the output as an estimate of calories burned from those steps.
Worked example
For example, if someone walks 8,000 steps and weighs 70 kilograms, the calculator gives an estimated calorie burn.
- Use the formula \(\text{calories} = \frac{8000 \times 70 \times 0.04}{1000}\).
- First compute \(8000 \times 70 = 560000\).
- Then compute \(560000 \times 0.04 = 22400\), and \(22400 \div 1000 = 22.4\).
Answer. Estimated calories burned: 22.4 calories
Tips and common mistakes
- Use your actual body weight for the most consistent estimate.
- Make sure the step count and weight are entered in the correct units.
- Treat the result as an estimate, not an exact measurement.
- If your tracker reports distance instead of steps, convert it first before using this calculator.
