  2. Next, convert to BTU: \(9{,}000{,}000\\,\text{J} \div 1{,}055.06\\,\text{J}/\text{BTU} \approx 8{,}530.02\\,\text{BTU}\).
  3. Then convert to calories: \(9{,}000{,}000\\,\text{J} \div 4.184\\,\text{J}/\text{cal} \approx 2{,}150{,}810.3\\,\text{cal}\).

Answer. \(2.5\\,\text{kWh} = 9{,}000{,}000\\,\text{J} \\approx 8{,}530.02\\,\text{BTU} \\approx 2{,}150{,}810.3\\,\text{cal}\).

Tips and common mistakes

  • Always check which calorie is meant, because \(\text{cal}\) and \(\text{kcal}\) are not the same thing.
  • If a result seems huge, that is normal when converting from \(\text{kWh}\) to smaller units like \(\text{cal}\), because one kilowatt-hour is a large amount of energy.
